Meet Yerba Sticks—an innovative and convenient way to experience the benefits of yerba mate anytime, anywhere.
Mateina is expanding its offerings with the launch of Yerba Sticks, a new product that complements its existing range, which includes loose leaf and canned ready-to-drink Energy Brews. Available in refreshing lemon lime and orange mandarin flavors, Yerba Sticks provide a convenient way to enjoy yerba mate and electrolytes. Simply rip open a stick, mix it with water, shake, and enjoy!
Inspired by mate gelado, a popular iced mate drink in Brazil, this formula highlights the rich taste of yerba mate, combined with citrus fruits to create a thirst-quenching iced tea flavor—all without any added sugar. Essential electrolytes enhance hydration while maintaining the focus on delivering a clean, convenient, and delicious yerba mate experience, with organic yerba mate making up the majority of its ingredients.
Yerba Sticks offer the same steady energy as Mateina’s other products, enhanced with electrolytes for optimal hydration. Each stick contains 100 milligrams of caffeine—comparable to the 120 milligrams found in a can of Mateina’s Ready-To-Drink. The sticks also feature a hydrating blend of sea salt, potassium, and magnesium, making them ideal for workouts, gym sessions, or post-sauna refreshment. With zero grams of sugar and just a pinch of stevia for sweetness, these sticks are a great fit for a health-conscious lifestyle. Like all Mateina products, Yerba Sticks are certified organic, gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO.
“Finally, a yerba mate drink that I can bring on a plane or a hike,” says CEO and co-founder Nicolas Beaupré. “With Yerba Sticks, our customers now have an easy and convenient option for enjoying yerba mate whenever they step outside their regular routine. This product is designed to enhance convenience in specific situations and attract a new audience—those with active lifestyles who prefer not to carry a can or brew yerba by hand. It’s perfect for travelers seeking a clean, sugar-free pick-me-up on flights or in remote locations.”
Yerba Sticks will be available on both Mateina’s U.S. website ($25 USD for 15 sticks) and Canadian website ($33 CAD for 15 sticks) in lemon lime or mandarin flavors. Currently, Mateina sells its Energy Brews in Erewhon Markets and Sunlife Organics in Southern California, with plans to distribute Yerba Sticks in grocery stores, gyms, and cafés in 2025. Founded in Montreal, Canada, in 2017 by Nicolas Beaupré and Elodie Simard, Mateina was inspired by Beaupré’s love for yerba mate, ignited during a language immersion trip to Chile in 2016. In January 2024, Mateina entered the U.S. market in partnership with Andrew Huberman, a Stanford neurobiology professor and host of the popular Huberman Lab podcast, alongside Canadian venture capital firm Tiny. “We envision a world where yerba mate is a widely accessible, health-forward beverage enjoyed by millions in the U.S. and around the world, just like coffee and tea today,” says Simard.
