Brick-and-mortar fitness is getting a high-tech upgrade.
The latest: Scaling its smart studio concept, Lumin Fitness signed its first franchise partner.
Verge Fit Holdings will open 13 Lumin locations in Texas over the next three years — with plans to eventually operate 100+ units.
Tech-driven. Launched in 2023 by former Gold’s Gym CEO Brandon Bean, Lumin leverages technology to power a gamified and hyper-personalized workout.
The self-proclaimed “world’s smarted fitness studio” accommodates up to 14 members per session, completing solo training or group classes at designated stations.
Operating autonomously, studios are overseen by a fitness pro, but the immersive experience is guided by AI — from check-in to cool-down.
- Virtual trainers guide 45-minute high-intensity functional sessions.
- Interactive, wall-to-wall LED screens identify people and objects.
- Motion-tracking tech analyzes form and rep count while offering feedback.
According to Bean, Lumin appeals to time-strapped exercisers and digital natives by “harnessing the power of technology while still embracing the power of community.”
Looking ahead: With its first franchisee signed, Lumin Fitness is set on scaling its tech-enabled concept while enhancing its “smart movement ecosystem.” Following suit, whether through partnerships or proprietary tech, wearables, screens, and AI trainers will complement brick-and-mortar workouts.
