Mera, a new Istanbul-based sports technology startup supported by the İTÜ Seed and Innogate acceleration programs, has launched its platform for analyzing metabolic performance tests and tracking how athletes change over time.

The platform is designed around tests commonly used in sports performance, including VO₂max and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. These tests can produce a large amount of physiological data, but the results are often analyzed separately and stored across different systems or reports.

Mera brings data from different metabolic testing systems into a single athlete profile. This allows coaches, performance specialists and laboratories to compare tests over time instead of looking at each assessment in isolation.

The platform uses data science and specialized neural network models for tasks such as identifying metabolic and ventilatory thresholds. Rather than asking a large language model (LLM) to interpret raw physiological signals directly, Mera processes test data through dedicated models and algorithms first.

Mera AI then works on top of the structured results, source data and athlete history. Through a chat-based interface, users can ask questions about test results, compare assessments and explore how an athlete’s physiological profile has changed over time.

One of the problems Mera is working on is that physiological thresholds are not always defined by a single clean signal. Gas exchange, blood lactate and other physiological measurements can provide different estimates, while test protocols, equipment and data quality can also influence results. Mera is developing methods to combine multiple estimates and provide additional context around the resulting analysis.

The company originally started as a hardware project focused on developing a metabolic analyzer using optical O₂ and CO₂ sensing. After building its first working prototypes, the team increasingly shifted its attention toward software and data analysis. Over the last year, software, data science and athlete data infrastructure have become the main focus of the product.

Mera is currently being tested with performance centers, sports clubs, endurance training groups and university laboratories. The company is now looking to expand pilot projects with elite sports teams and university sports and exercise physiology laboratories.

A public version of the platform is available without registration and uses an athlete profile with multiple metabolic tests. Visitors can explore test history, derived metrics and Mera AI directly in the browser.

Mera’s longer-term mission is to make the level of metabolic testing and physiological analysis currently associated with professional athletes and elite teams accessible in everyday fitness environments. The company sees performance centers and professional sport as the starting point, with fitness clubs and broader consumer access as a longer-term opportunity.
