Basic-Fit Enters Franchising

Basic-Fit

Basic-Fit is branching out.

What’s happening: The Dutch budget gym chain will accelerate European growth via franchising.

Extending its network of 1.5K+ gyms in six countries, it will debut its first franchised clubs in 2025, tapping local partners to enter new markets.

On track. Pursuing growth, Basic-Fit is forecasting $1.3B in revenue by year-end.

Spurred by its acquisition of RSG Group’s Spanish footprint, and 173 club openings across France, Germany, and the Benelux region, Europe’s largest operator recently hit 4M members.

Urged to improve margins by investors, the introduction of weekly pricing and continued club revamps alongside franchising are expected to boost profitability.

Budget Boom

With European gyms approaching 100M members, HVLP operators are scaling.

  • With 2M members and 600+ gyms across six countries, PureGym is targeting 200 new clubs in Europe by 2028.
  • Planning to modernize all 230 clubs by next year, RSG Group’s McFIT is adding female-only zones, studio classes, and functional strength areas.
  • The Gym Group is opening 50 new sites across the UK over the next three years.

Crossing the Atlantic, US-based Planet Fitness plans to add 300 Spanish sites. Adding to launches in France and Austria, Anytime Fitness is slated to enter Scandinavia.

Looking ahead: As the HVLP category heats up, operators are pursuing new growth strategies. By adding franchising to its arsenal, Basic-Fit hopes to outpace the competition.
