The New York City Marathon’s peak age has shifted 11 years younger over the past six years
In 2025, runners under 30 accounted for a quarter of all finishers, while women ages 25 to 29 became the race’s largest age group.
With roughly 60K running the NYC Marathon over the weekend, the field is likely the youngest in the race’s history.
The numbers point to a new generation embracing endurance sports, with running offering both a competitive outlet and a social experience.
Golf and tennis win over young players
Golf and tennis are seeing some of the biggest gains in youth sports participation.
According to the Aspen Institute, tennis participation among children ages 6 to 12 jumped 72% between 2019 and 2025.
Golf participation in the same age group grew 55%, with additional gains among teens.
Attracting younger crowds, golf courses have added shorter formats, putting courses, night golf, and tech-enabled experiences like simulators and driving ranges, while tennis participation notched increases for seven consecutive years across all ages.
24 Hour Fitness introduces Founders Club
24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov is putting $10M behind a new 45K-sq-ft club in Las Vegas called Founders Club.
Expected to open early 2027, the concept combines strength training and functional fitness with a recovery suite including hyperbaric chambers, massage chairs, cold therapy, and red light saunas.
The facility will also include a medical spa with IV therapy and health services, a sauna and cold room, plus a juice bar and social cafe.
Mastrov, who founded 24 Hour Fitness in 1983, is using the new concept to bring training, recovery, and community together under one roof.
We break down how fitness, wellness, and healthcare are converging — and what it means for business, culture, and capital.
No thanks.
