The two stages do different jobs. The outer capsule is acid-resistant, so the peppermint oil is not released in the stomach but further down, in the small intestine, where it acts on contact with the intestinal wall to calm discomfort and cramping. The inner capsule carries ibSium deeper, toward the colon, where over several weeks it works to reduce gut sensitivity and help restore normal bowel function. The evidence behind each ingredient is unusual for a supplement. Peppermint oil has been studied in 10 randomised controlled trials involving 1,030 patients and is recommended by the American College of Gastroenterology in its 2021 guidance. IbSium is a probiotic yeast advised by the World Gastroenterology Organisation in its 2023 global guidelines; in randomised controlled research it reduced bloating by 14.9% compared with placebo and improved stool consistency, with quality-of-life improvement measured by week eight. Both societies recommend the ingredients.
