Eight Sleep, the leading sleep technology company, today launched Autopilot 4.0, a new generation of Autopilot that acts as a sleep agent.

The sleep agent uses data from your day and night to predict how you are likely to sleep, respond automatically by adjusting your sleep environment through the Pod, and explain what happened in plain language every morning.

Available immediately to all Autopilot members, Autopilot 4.0 gives members a more complete view of what is shaping their sleep and uses that information to improve it. It connects to Apple Health or Health Connect to automatically pull in relevant daily data, including workouts, activity, and other health signals. Members can also tag events directly in the Eight Sleep app, like a late meal, alcohol, stress, or an intense workout, to give Autopilot more context.

Using that data, the sleep agent learns how each member’s habits and physiology affect their sleep. It then uses those predictions to automatically adjust the Pod, helping create the right sleep environment before and throughout the night.

A prediction every evening. An adjustment before bed. A brief every morning.

Each evening, the sleep agent analyzes the member’s data to predict how the night is likely to unfold. Based on that prediction, it automatically adjusts the Pod before bed, including temperature and timing, to help offset the effects of that day’s behavior and environment.

This is what makes Autopilot 4.0 different from products that simply surface sleep data or generic recommendations. Instead of only telling members what may affect sleep, Eight Sleep responds by changing the sleep environment itself.

Each morning, members receive a plain-language brief explaining what likely happened during the night, what may have driven it, and how the sleep agent responded. Instead of just seeing sleep metrics, they get a clear explanation tied to their own data, along with the automatic adjustments made to support better sleep.

For example, the sleep agent may detect that alcohol is likely to raise body temperature and respond by cooling the bed earlier. Or it may connect a late meal, a stressful day, or a hard workout with likely changes in recovery or deep sleep, and then adjust the sleep environment accordingly.

Specific enough to act on

The longer members use Autopilot 4.0, the more personalized it becomes. It benchmarks each member against their own history and against peers in their age and gender cohort, helping surface patterns that are otherwise hard to detect, from the impact of an afternoon coffee on REM sleep to the effect of a consistent bedtime on HRV. Every night adds to the picture, sharpening predictions and making adjustments more precise.

“Generic sleep advice has been the industry default for years. It’s also why people stop trusting it. The whole design philosophy behind the sleep agent was to make every insight specific enough that you couldn’t get it from anywhere else, because it’s about you, your physiology, your night. That’s what earns the right to change someone’s behavior,” said Kelly Palmer, Product Design Lead at Eight Sleep.

Built on Eight Sleep’s data advantage

Autopilot 4.0 is powered by over one billion hours of biometric sleep data collected from members across 35 countries. The Pod measures heart rate with 99% accuracy, HRV with 95%, and breathing rate with 98% using a clinical-grade sensor strip built into the bed, with no wearable required.

By combining this nighttime biometric data with daytime context from connected health platforms and member tags, Autopilot 4.0 can better predict what is likely to happen and respond automatically through the Pod.

“In the past, sleep technology mostly told you what happened after the fact,” said Matteo Franceschetti, co-founder and CEO of Eight Sleep. “Autopilot 4.0 changes that. It uses your data to predict how you are going to sleep, adjusts your sleep environment automatically through the Pod, and tells you in plain language what actually mattered.”

Availability

Autopilot 4.0 is available today to all Autopilot members through the Eight Sleep app on iOS and Android.
