Boston, MA / Jul 21, 2026 / DEKA

This July, more than 5,500 athletes will race in Manchester, UK, and Boston, USA, as DEKA – the global fitness racing brand created by the team behind Spartan™ – stages two flagship events on opposite sides of the Atlantic over the same weekend.

Taking place from 24th–26th July, the events will bring together athletes from 1,000 gyms, including first-time competitors, elite racers, families and fitness communities from around the world.

Although separated by more than 3,000 miles, both events will follow the exact same race format. Every athlete will complete the same ten functional fitness zones, earn the same globally recognised DEKA Mark, and measure themselves against a worldwide community through one standardised test of fitness.

Together, the events showcase DEKA’s rapid international expansion and the growing popularity of fitness racing as a participation sport.

Across both events, elite athletes, first-time competitors and local fitness communities will share the same start line, reflecting DEKA’s ability to bring together every level of athlete within one competition format. In Manchester, more than 80% of competitors are making their first DEKA FIT appearance in the UK, while 78% of Boston competitors will be taking on their first DEKA event, highlighting the growing appeal of a sport built around personal progress, capability and measurable achievement.

Women continue to play a leading role in that growth, representing 52% of competitors in Manchester and 57% in Boston. The popularity of team racing also reflects a wider shift towards fitness experiences centred on encouragement, shared goals and collective achievement alongside individual performance.

Emily leRoux, Vice President at DEKA International, said: “Seeing Manchester and Boston host two of our biggest events at the same time is a powerful reflection of how quickly fitness racing is growing around the world. Thousands of people, separated by thousands of miles, will take on the same challenge, complete the same course and earn the same DEKA Mark.

“That’s what makes DEKA unique. Whether you’re racing in the UK or the US, you’re part of one global community connected by a shared standard of fitness. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an elite athlete chasing a podium place or taking on your first event – everyone steps onto the same start line, completes the same challenge and earns their mark.”

One race. One standard. One global benchmark.

Unlike traditional fitness competitions, every DEKA event follows the same standardised format, allowing athletes anywhere in the world to compare performances through their official DEKA Mark.

Each race combines running with ten functional fitness zones, including rowing, SkiErg, weighted lunges, farmer’s carries, sled push and pull, wall overs and burpees, testing strength, endurance and resilience through movements that reflect real-world fitness.

Whether competing for a podium finish, a personal best or simply to prove something to themselves, every finisher leaves with a globally recognised benchmark that can be measured, improved and carried into future DEKA events.

Two cities. One global community.

Manchester will host DEKA’s biggest UK event to date, welcoming more than 2,500 athletes representing over 720 gyms, with competitors travelling from across Britain and overseas, including Australia, the United States and the Cayman Islands.

Across the Atlantic, Boston will stage its largest DEKA event yet, with more than 3,000 athletes, supporters and spectators expected at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The event will bring together competitors aged 11 to 76 from almost 200 gyms across Greater Boston and beyond.

Together, the two events demonstrate the scale of DEKA’s international growth. What began as a fitness racing concept has evolved into a worldwide movement, with standardised events taking place across multiple continents and creating a shared language for functional fitness.

As DEKA continues to expand globally, these events represent more than race weekends. They showcase a sport built around participation as much as performance, where first-time racers stand alongside elite athletes and every competitor earns the same globally recognised DEKA Mark.
