So you will never have to book a hotel with a bad gym again.

HotelGyms.com launched GYMR, a free browser extension for Chrome and Edge that displays verified hotel gym ratings and detailed facility information directly on major booking platforms while travelers search and compare properties.

The launch addresses a persistent friction point in hotel booking: travelers juggling multiple browser tabs to cross-reference pricing, location, reviews, and fitness facilities before making a decision.

GYMR eliminates one step in that process by surfacing gym quality data at the exact moment it’s needed, during the booking flow itself.

“You’re comparing hotels on platforms like Booking.com or Expedia, checking price, location, reviews. Then you open another tab to search if the gym is any good, read through vague reviews, look at photos that might be outdated,” said Michel Luescher, Founder of HotelGyms.com. “By the time you piece it together, you’ve lost track of which hotel you were even looking at. GYMR solves this by showing you the gym quality score and equipment breakdown right there, before you click ‘book.'”

Meeting Travelers Where They Book

The extension integrates with major booking platforms, overlaying HotelGyms.com‘s GymFactor ratings and structured facility data (equipment inventory, space measurements, hours, access restrictions) directly onto hotel listings.

Travelers can see whether a property has free weights or only cardio equipment, view photos, all without leaving the booking site.

The timing reflects significant platform growth. HotelGyms.com has now documented more than 120,000 hotel gyms worldwide, with nearly 5,000 registered members contributing reviews, photos, and equipment updates. The platform currently serves approximately 100,000 monthly visitors.

“We’re not trying to replace booking platforms. We’re filling a gap they haven’t addressed,” Luescher explained.

Data, not Opinion

“Standard reviews lack context; a gym that delights a runner might fail a powerlifter,” said Luescher. “Instead of adding to the influencer noise, GymFactor relies on a hard inventory of equipment and space. Our algorithm provides a transparent rating based on what is actually on the floor, not how a blogger felt that day.”

A property with a 2,000-square-foot strength facility gets the same ‘fitness center’ label as one with a Peloton in a closet. The GymFactor scoring system makes the distinction clear before the mistake happens.

The platform now maintains its dataset in collaboration with major fitness equipment manufacturers including Life Fitness, Technogym, and Matrix, as well as directly with hotel properties and fitness influencers who contribute verified facility information.

Building for the Fitness Travel Community

GYMR is available now as a free download for Chrome and Edge browsers at www.HotelGyms.com/browser-plugin. The platform continues to expand coverage through community contributions, with registered members able to submit gym reviews, photos, and equipment updates for properties worldwide.

An upcoming GYMR feature will display verified nearby gyms within walking distance of hotel properties. For the thousands of hotels without on-site fitness facilities, or with limited equipment, this addresses a significant gap.
