LYMA and The Future Laboratory Launch The P.O.W.E.R. Index report, Redefining How Women Invest in Their Health

Proprietary research reveals nearly three-quarters of women rank health as their highest priority — yet only a third will call the money they spend on it an ‘investment.’ The report, backed by a body of three leading clinicians, includes a new Index designed to close that gap and become a shared standard for the wider industry.

New York, NY / Sep 8, 2026 / LYMA
  • 56% of women find it difficult to distinguish products supported by real science from those that simply borrow scientific language
  • 57% say they have to work harder than they should to find health information that’s actually relevant to them
  • 61% of women ages 18–45 feel they are expected to age well without being given the tools or information to do so
  • Only 18% of women identify health as the highest-value use of their money.
  • 72% would choose a treatment that changes how they see themselves over one that changes how others see them
  • 67% value confidence derived from knowing their body is in excellent health over confidence based on appearance, rising to 73% among Gen X women

LYMA, the pioneering British MedTech brand, today launches a landmark report into Women’s Health introducing The P.O.W.E.R. Index — a new framework developed with global research and innovation consultancy The Future Laboratory, giving women a consistent, evidence-based way to judge any health investment, from a supplement to a diagnostic scan to topical skincare.

The Investment Gap

The report’s research exposes a clear gap in the sector: nearly three-quarters of women aged 35–54 rank health as their highest priority, yet only a third describe money spent on it as an ‘investment’ rather than an ‘indulgence’. When asked the same question, women are twice as likely as men to call the exact same spend on health an indulgence rather than an investment.

It is a gap of permission, not intention — compounded by a market short on proof: 57% of women say they have to work harder than they should to find health information they can trust, and 72% believe the industry chases the next innovation rather than proving the value of what already exists.  Women are ready to invest in their health; what they lack is the permission to prioritise that spend and the proof to feel confident doing so.

Introducing the P.O.W.E.R Index

The P.O.W.E.R Index is built around five questions designed to work for a health purchase the way a credit rating works for a bond: not proof of a good outcome, but a shared, trusted starting point for judging one.

Proven – Is it backed by credible science and measurable evidence?

Outcomes – Does it improve meaningful long-term health outcomes, not just promises?

Whole-System – Does it understand the interconnected biology of women’s health, rather than treating isolated symptoms?

Empowering – Does it increase understanding, confidence and agency over your own health?

Return – Does it create lasting value for your future health, or simply short-term optimisation?

Lucy Goff, LYMA Founder says, “We built LYMA on the belief that health should be held to the same standard as any other serious investment. The P.O.W.E.R. Index is the first time that standard has been written down — and it belongs to the industry, not just to us.

Every time we have launched into a new category at LYMA we have done it with evidence backed science and clinicals to show the products actually work.  We want to empower our customers to be able to make informed decisions about their health and wellness products using the P.O.W.E.R Index heralding a new era of power in Women’s health. ”

A Call to the Health and Wellness Industry

LYMA is calling on the wider industry to adopt the P.O.W.E.R. Index as that standard — not a scorecard reserved for LYMA alone, but a baseline expectation for premium health brands. The ambition is for a recognised, verified standard built on these principles to do for efficacy what B Corp has done for ethics: giving consumers the same confidence in what a claim actually delivers, at a moment when the global wellness market is approaching $10 trillion and has outgrown consumers’ ability to evaluate it.

The report has been guided by three clinical experts: Dr. Florence Comite, endocrinologist and founder of the Comite Center for Precision Medicine & Healthy Longevity; Dr. Elissa Epel, health psychologist and director of the Aging, Metabolism and Emotion Center at the University of California, San Francisco; and Dr. Stephanie Kuku, Chief regulatory and scientific affairs officer at Conceivable Life Sciences and clinician scientist in surgical oncology, women’s health.

“Women already know the foundations of good health,” said Dr. Stephanie Kuku. “The real opportunity is helping them turn that knowledge into actions they can sustain, in doing the due diligence in a crowded market.”

“Notably, there isn’t a cut-off point at which this stops mattering. The mechanisms that slow aging in midlife continue to work decades later, which is why environment-led intervention pays off whenever it’s introduced, not only within a narrow window early in life.” said Dr. Elissa Epel.

“I’d like to see each of us take responsibility for our own health — investing time, energy and resources in understanding ourselves first, because when you take care of yourself you’re better able to care for those around you.” said Dr. Florence Comite. She goes on to say that “Just as with a retirement fund, you can build your own health portfolio over time, through small, consistent investments that compound into a better quality of life.”

Chris Sanderson, Co-founder of The Future Laboratory, says: “Health and wellbeing is approaching a fundamental reset. In the next era of the market, ‘clinically proven’, ‘expert-backed’ and ‘science-led’ will no longer be claims a brand can simply make – they will be standards it has to demonstrate. The P.O.W.E.R. Index is a first step towards codifying that change: moving health beyond the wellness economy as we know it and towards a new category of evidence-led investment.”
