Nuffield Health has strengthened its commitment to helping members improve both their fitness and wellbeing with the installation of nine new Wattbike Air-Pro bikes across two of its Glasgow clubs.
The investment sees five bikes installed at Nuffield Health Glasgow Central and four at Nuffield Health Glasgow Giffnock, giving members access to Wattbike’s latest commercial indoor cycling technology as well as the innovative Wattbike Healthspan Check, which can be completed in as little as six minutes.
The Healthspan Check is a science-backed assessment* that converts an estimated VO₂ Max and Cardiorespiratory Fitness (CRF) score into a single, easy-to-understand Healthspan Score, enabling members to benchmark their aerobic fitness against others of the same age and gender.
Widely recognised as one of the strongest indicators of overall health, cardiorespiratory fitness reflects how efficiently the heart, lungs and muscles work together during exercise. Designed for accessibility, the Healthspan Check uses a submaximal protocol requiring participants to work at approximately 7/10 RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion), making it suitable for a broad range of members while still delivering highly accurate fitness data.
On the installation, Aaron Wijetunga, Fitness Manager at Nuffield Health & Fitness Glasgow Central, said: “At Nuffield Health, we are committed to helping people live healthier lives through fitness, wellbeing and preventative healthcare. The introduction of the Wattbike Air-Pro gives members access to advanced fitness assessment and training technology.
“The bikes have already proved incredibly popular, particularly at peak times, and we’ll also be introducing the Healthspan Check into our kickstart onboarding programme.
“The Healthspan Check provides valuable insights into cardiovascular health, helping members make informed decisions about their fitness and wellbeing, while giving our personal trainers another tool to help track progress and support long-term health improvements.”
A Healthspan Score can be established in as little as six minutes through a fully guided assessment on the bike’s console. Because the test is submaximal, users never need to exercise to exhaustion, making it an effective and accessible tool for member onboarding and ongoing fitness tracking.
Chris Maule, Northern Sales Manager at Wattbike, added: “We’re delighted to expand our partnership with Nuffield Health through the installation of nine Wattbike Air-Pro bikes across the Glasgow Central and Glasgow Giffnock clubs. Nuffield Health has long championed evidence-based approaches to improving health and wellbeing, making it a natural partner for Wattbike.
“The Air-Pro combines the trusted ride feel, durability and data accuracy Wattbike is known for with innovations such as the new Performance Touchscreen and Healthspan Check, helping members engage with their health and fitness in a more meaningful way.”
The Wattbike Air-Pro is Wattbike’s next-generation commercial indoor training bike, combining fan-based air resistance with enhanced magnetic resistance for a smooth, responsive ride. Its integrated 7-inch Performance Touchscreen provides instant access to workouts, fitness assessments and training plans, while seamless connectivity with the Wattbike Hub app and leading third-party fitness platforms helps members get more from every session.
The installation further strengthens Nuffield Health’s preventative approach to wellbeing, equipping members with accessible, data-driven tools to better understand and improve their fitness over time.
