This October, Perfect Days Collective is taking on the length of Manhattan for a different kind of endurance event.
On October 10, Perfect Days Collective will host Ruck The City, presented by GORUCK, a roughly 13-mile ruck down Broadway designed to bring people together during Depression Awareness Month and start a larger conversation around the invisible weight people carry every day.
Beginning at Broadway and West 220th Street at the top of Manhattan, participants will make their way south to Battery Park carrying weighted rucks that serve as a physical representation of the emotional burdens that often go unseen.
The premise is simple: share the weight.
Throughout the route, participants will pass rucks between one another, carrying weight for someone else before passing it on again. Attendees are welcome to bring their own ruck, but owning one is not required. Those without a pack can participate by taking turns carrying the GORUCK rucks available onsite.
The experience transforms a familiar training modality into an exercise in collective support, reinforcing the idea that while we may not be able to remove what someone else is carrying, we can help make the load lighter.
“Depression is a deeply personal topic,” said Danielle Bitts, Founder of Perfect Days Collective. “I’ve had a longstanding history with depression, and I know what it feels like to carry something heavy that the people around you can’t necessarily see. Ruck The City is about making that invisible weight physical and choosing to share it. You carry for someone, someone carries for you, and you keep moving forward together. That’s the kind of connection we want to create through Perfect Days.”
The event is presented in partnership with GORUCK, with additional support from Echelon and Kreatures of Habit.
Rather than moving through Manhattan unnoticed, the group will embrace the city itself as part of the event. Participants will travel Broadway from tip-to-tip, stopping at neighborhood bodegas and delis along the way before finishing together in Battery Park.
100% of event proceeds will benefit the Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated exclusively to funding advanced neuroscience research into the origins, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of depression and related mood disorders.
For Bitts, the event also represents the larger purpose behind Perfect Days Collective: creating experiences where movement serves as an entry point to meaningful human connection.
“Depression can make your world feel incredibly isolated,” Bitts added. “Sometimes support isn’t about having the perfect thing to say or trying to fix what someone is going through, but rather simply showing up saying, ‘I’ll carry this with you.’”
