ROOK, the health data aggregation and intelligence platform for digital health, wellness, and insurance, today introduced the new ROOK: the infrastructure for the continuous health record. The company that began as a wearable API now connects 72 data sources and more than 500 devices, spanning wearables, medical devices and lab results, through a single integration. ROOK is also pre-announcing EHR/EMR access through its upcoming Medical Records API, with several launch partners to be announced in the coming weeks.
On top of that data layer, ROOK Signals and ROOK Scores turn each person’s data into personal-baseline alerts, scores and User Health Profiles that fitness, wellness and health products can act on. ROOK is also launching a rebuilt website and a redesigned self-serve portal that lets teams sign up and go live without a sales call.
From snapshots to streams
For decades, health data arrived in snapshots: an annual physical, a lab panel, a single weigh-in. Today it arrives as a stream. Sleep, heart rate variability, glucose, activity and recovery are captured every day by devices people already own.
The stream is fragmented, though. Every device and data provider brings its own data model, authentication flow, units and history limits, so product teams spend months stitching together a partial picture.
The new ROOK is built to close that gap. Instead of treating wearable data as a feature, ROOK treats it as one layer of a continuous health record: a standardized, longitudinal view of a person’s health that combines everyday signals from wearables and connected devices with clinical context from lab results and, soon, medical records.
ROOK Connect: one API for every source of the record
ROOK Connect is the data layer of the new ROOK. One API and SDKs for Android, iOS, Flutter, Capacitor (Ionic) and React Native connect, standardize and deliver data from 72 data sources and more than 500 devices, including Apple Health, Health Connect, Garmin Connect, Oura, WHOOP, Polar, Withings, Samsung Health and many more. The new ROOK extends that same API well beyond wearables:
- Lab API brings lab results from PDFs and images into the same API, next to a user’s daily device data.
- Medical Device API standardizes readings from connected devices such as blood pressure monitors, smart scales and continuous glucose monitors. With Medical Device Metadata, teams can see when a glucose, blood pressure, SpO2, temperature or ECG reading comes from a device and function with a verified FDA or EU CE regulatory record.
- FHIR R4 output turns normalized health summaries into FHIR R4 documents with LOINC codes and UCUM units, so the data can be exchanged with systems that use FHIR.
- Medical Records API (coming soon) will give teams consent-based access to EHR/EMR data, including medications, allergies, lab results, encounters, care plans and immunizations, from EHRs, patient portals and health networks, mapped to a unified schema. A waitlist is open now.
The ROOK platform: from data to insight
Connecting data is only the first step. The new ROOK is built in layers, all delivered through the same integration:
- ROOK Connect is the data layer described above: one API for wearable, medical device, lab and, soon, EHR/EMR data.
- ROOK App is a ready-made extraction app that lets users sync their data from Apple Health, Health Connect and Samsung Health, for companies that don’t have their own mobile app.
- ROOK Scores turns connected data into a 0–100 score for each user across three pillars (physical, sleep and body), with a Global Score and a seven-day view. It also builds a User Health Profile that brings each user’s data from every source into one place.
- ROOK Signals compares each user against their own baseline rather than a population average. It monitors five signals (resting heart rate, heart rate variability, resting respiratory rate, blood oxygen saturation and sleep duration) and sends an alert through the client’s existing webhook when a value moves outside that person’s range.
- ROOK Intelligence (coming soon) will add predictive models that estimate the risk of outcomes such as falls and diabetes.
For a fitness or wellness business, that means a gym app can flag a member whose resting heart rate rises above their usual range, a coaching platform can adapt a plan when a sleep score drops, and a wellness program can reward engagement from one consistent profile.
A new front door: website and portal
ROOK’s rebuilt website at tryrook.io presents the full platform for the first time. It is organized around the data each team needs (wearables, medical devices, labs and medical records), the products that act on it (ROOK Connect, ROOK Signals and ROOK Scores) and the markets ROOK serves: fitness, wellness, digital health and insurance.
The redesigned ROOK Portal makes onboarding fully self-serve. Teams can create an account, generate credentials, choose data sources, configure webhooks and switch on add-ons such as Medical Device Metadata in one place, then move from sandbox to production without waiting on a sales call.
“When we started ROOK, the hard problem was getting wearable data into an app at all,” said Marco Benitez, CEO and co-founder of ROOK. “That problem is solved. The next one is bigger: a person’s health doesn’t live in one device or one doctor’s visit, and their data shouldn’t either. We’re building the infrastructure that lets any company work with a continuous health record, from the heart rate a watch captures tonight to the lab panel drawn next month.”
“Fitness and wellness companies proved first what continuous data can do for engagement,” said Daniel Martínez, CTO and co-founder of ROOK. “Now the same data is moving into insurance, clinical programs and longevity care, and the teams building those products need more than a wearable API. The new ROOK gives them one place to start, and with the new portal they can go live without ever waiting on a sales call.”
