Technogym, the world leader in wellness, health, and performance, as well as the official supplier for the last 10 Olympic Games, and World Athletics, the world governing body for athletics, have recently announced the launch of RUN X, the first-ever World Championship of treadmill running. This innovative 5 km competition is set to revolutionize the concept of running by breaking down geographical and weather barriers and making a world championship accessible in sports and fitness centers around the world.
Fitness and wellness centers, as well as corporate facilities, universities, and hotels, can now register as Official RUN X Centers, joining a global network. Starting from June, runners will be able to sign up for the competition starting in July with the qualification phase. RUN X will give club members the chance to compete against professional athletes through an online leaderboard that shows the real-time rankings of all participants worldwide. The 5 km results will be certified through Technogym’s connected treadmills to ensure accuracy, credibility, and elite competition standards with a specific set of rules.
The top-ranked participants in each country, divided by age groups, will then advance to the regional championships taking place in fall, to qualify for the world final to be held in an iconic location that will be announced on June 3rd. In the final, the top 10 male and top 10 female runners will compete for the title of World Treadmill Running Champion, a $100,000 prize pool, and World Athletics “wild cards” for selected international events.
For industry operators, RUN X represents a great business opportunity to attract new members and increase the retention of existing ones. As Official RUN X Centers, facilities gain exclusive access to the entire RUN X Format, which includes competition software, certified leaderboards, merchandising, marketing and communication support.
By becoming an Official RUN X Center, fitness centers are not just hosting a competition; they are joining a year-round global movement that is defining a new sporting discipline destined to reshape the future of indoor running.
