SleepCogni, the healthtech platform whose smart handheld device offers immediate relief to people who struggle to fall asleep, has appointed two new Non-Executive Directors. Bryn Sage is the former CEO of Inhealthcare (acquired by Resmed), and Jason Brannan is former Deputy Director of the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University.
Over 852 million adults and over 148 million children and young people (more than 1 billion in total) live with insomnia. With growing numbers affected by poor sleep, the global market for sleep aid technologies is estimated to be worth $103bn and expected to rise to $136bn by 2030.
Bryn and Jason bring commercial and clinical strategy experience to SleepCogni to capitalise on this opportunity. They will work closely with CEO, Richard Mills, as the business prepares for further NHS engagement and raises its next round of investment to commercialise SleepCogni.
SleepCogni’s patented handheld device provides personalised sleep intelligence and delivers dynamic sensory cues that the user actively responds to, helping the mind switch off and fall asleep naturally. During clinical trials, 78% said it was more effective than anything they had tried before.
Bryn brings over forty years of experience in developing and commercialising technology at scale. As Chief Executive of Inhealthcare, he led the rollout of 4 million episodes of digital care across 150 pathways, partnering with over 50 NHS trusts in England, the Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, and NHS National Services Scotland. In 2024, Inhealthcare was acquired by ResMed, the US medical technology company reporting $4.7 billion in revenue that year. Before establishing Inhealthcare, Bryn was Chief Operating Officer at InTechnology plc.
Jason has spent more than 20 years driving strategy and innovation across health technology and life sciences. He was most recently Deputy Director of the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University, where he led strategy and R&D-for-business programmes with a focus on prevention and reducing health inequalities. His experience spans primary and secondary care, private healthcare, academia, and the public and private sectors.
Bryn and Jason join a board chaired by Colin Greene, a former Apple director for almost 15 years, who served as CEO of Apple Korea. He is now an Operational Partner at PXN Ventures.
Richard Mills, Founder and CEO of SleepCogni, said: “Bryn and Jason bring exactly the experience we need as we move into our next phase of growth. Bryn has been CEO of leading digital health businesses, including one that exited to ResMed in 2024, operating directly in our space. Jason led strategy at one of the UK’s top wellbeing research centres and understands what it takes to get evidence-based health technology into widespread use. Their commercial and clinical insight will strengthen our board significantly.”
Bryn Sage, Non-Executive Director at SleepCogni, said: “With deep experience across respiratory health, cardiology and digital therapeutics, I’ve seen how well‑designed technology can shift outcomes at population scale. Insomnia is an increasingly significant clinical and economic burden, and SleepCogni’s integrated bedside and wearable solution is differentiated in a way that genuinely matters. I’m excited to support the team in driving adoption and commercial growth.”
Jason Brannan, Non-Executive Director at SleepCogni, added: “SleepCogni’s technology has the potential to make a real difference to the lives of people struggling with insomnia. I’m excited to support the team as they move from strong clinical evidence into broader commercial success. Over the past 20 years my focus has been on strategic growth in healthtech, helping ambitious companies turn promising science into products that reach the people who need them.”
SleepCogni was founded in 2015 in Sheffield, United Kingdom, by Richard Mills and Dr. Maan van de Werken.
