SONNI Enters Its First Full Summer Season With a Mineral SPF System Built for the Daily-Protection Era

The brand founded after melanoma touched both founders’ families is making a case for suncare as a longevity essential, not a beach bag afterthought.

Sunscreen has a compliance problem. Despite decades of public health messaging, most Americans still skip SPF, and the products themselves are a big reason why. Thick formulas. White cast. That distinct chemical smell. The greasy finish that ruins makeup and makes every application feel like a chore.

SONNI was built to end that.

The mineral suncare brand, which debuted in October 2025, heads into its first full summer season with a complete SPF and recovery system engineered around a simple belief: people will protect their skin when they actually want to put the product on.

For co-founders with melanoma in both of their families, that premise is anything but abstract.

“We couldn’t find suncare that fit into our real life, something that made as much sense on vacation as it did on a commute,” the co-founders said. “With melanoma in both of our families, the need for better suncare became even more urgent. SONNI is our answer to that.”

CLOSING THE MINERAL GAP

Mineral SPF has long occupied an awkward position in the market: the cleaner option that consumers couldn’t bring themselves to use. Traditional zinc oxide formulas left a white cast that didn’t work across skin tones, and textures built for beach reapplication weren’t designed for daily wear before work. Chemical filters solved the aesthetics, but a growing number of ingredient-literate buyers have questions about them, from how they interact with the body to their effect on marine environments, and want a cleaner option they can wear every day.

SONNI’s next-generation zinc technology addresses both sides. Its formulas deliver the invisible, weightless finish that previously required synthetic UV filters, making broad-spectrum mineral protection viable for all skin tones, textures, and everyday routines.

THE FULL LINEUP

SONNI’s system is split across two collections: SunDay for protection, SunDown for recovery.

  • SunDay Mineral Serum SPF 50+ ($42) — Water-resistant face SPF with barrier-boosting actives. Formulated for high-UV days and extended outdoor wear.
  • SunDay Invisible Defense SPF 40+ ($40) — Lightweight daily face SPF. Hydrating, no visible residue, designed to layer seamlessly under makeup.
  • SunDay Body Balm SPF 40+ ($38) — Hydrating mineral body SPF gentle enough for kids six months and up.
  • SunDown Restoration Electrolyte Sheet Mask (4-pack, $26) — After-sun recovery mask that rehydrates skin stressed by UV exposure and heat. Rounds out a complete seasonal skin routine.

SONNI’s three SPF formulas are dermatologist-approved, using 100% mineral, non-nano zinc UV filters. All four products are vegan, Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free, fragrance-free, and free of parabens and sulfates.
