Suunto launches Core 2, a redesigned evolution of its iconic Core series outdoor watch, built for people who rely on dependable tools in unpredictable environments. For outdoor adventurers, from thruhikers, overlanders, and anglers to field professionals, who demand reliable, low-maintenance performance, Core 2 delivers a comprehensive set of hardware and software upgrades designed to extend the original Core’s legacy into a new generation of outdoor use.
Combining essential outdoor functions, durable construction, and long-lasting battery life, Core 2 is designed to support confident decision-making everywhere from backcountry trails and remote camps to everyday outdoor life.
Built around an upgraded altimeter, barometer, and compass system, Core 2 helps users stay aware of changing conditions, navigate with confidence, and make informed decisions when weather, terrain, and visibility become critical.
With improved durability, a modernized display, and low-maintenance operation, Core 2 continues Suunto’s approach of creating instruments people can trust when they are far from charging cables and mobile networks.
First launched in 2007, the original Core established itself as a trusted instrument across the outdoor, and tactical communities. Core 2 builds on that legacy with meaningful improvements in display, durability, and usability, while preserving the straightforward tool-watch identity that made the original a category icon.
Built around essential outdoor awareness
Core 2 centers on a redesigned ABC sensor suite with improved altimeter and barometer accuracy, automatic pressure-filtering to reduce false storm alerts, and an offline compass for reliable direction finding in signal-dead terrain. The integrated storm alarm monitors pressure changes and alerts users before conditions deteriorate, helping support safer and better-informed decisions in remote environments.
New moon phase functionality supports timing-critical outdoor activities like fishing navigation. Sunrise and sunset data, cumulative elevation tracking, and step counting extend the watch’s utility across a full range of outdoor and daily-use scenarios.
Designed to perform in real conditions
The upgraded 1.3-inch high-contrast LED dot-matrix display delivers 40% improved brightness over the original Core, with a raise-to-wake backlight for quick visibility in changing light conditions. Freely switchable red and green backlighting supports night-adjusted vision and tactical use without unnecessary glare.
Core 2 is powered by a user-replaceable CR3032 coin cell battery offering up to 15 months of continuous use, minimizing maintenance during multi-day expeditions and daily wear alike. Water resistance has been upgraded to 10ATM, while Gorilla Glass screen protection and oversized physical buttons are engineered for confident operation in gloves, wet conditions, and demanding environments.
Bluetooth connectivity enables time synchronization, step data transfer, and over-the-air firmware updates via the Suunto app, allowing Core 2 to evolve over time while keeping the experience intentionally simple and focused.
Pricing and availability
Suunto Core 2 is available globally from July 21, 2026, at a recommended retail price of £155 / $199 USD / €199 EUR. Core 2 will be sold through Suunto’s direct-to-consumer channels and authorized outdoor retail partners across North America, Europe, and key Asia-Pacific markets.
Suunto is a Finnish brand, established 90 years ago, in 1936. It was founded by Finnish inventor Tuomas Vohlonen, who pioneered a new standard for navigational precision. That same year, his innovation – a field compass – was stronger, steadier, and more accurate than any other handheld navigational tool of its time. It was the first of many Suunto products built to withstand the harsh conditions of our native Finland.
