Matrix Fitness has completed a new cardio equipment installation at the prestigious Hurlingham Club, delivering a modernised training environment designed to meet the expectations of its discerning membership while seamlessly integrating with the Club’s existing EGYM digital fitness ecosystem.
The project saw the installation of Matrix’s premium ONYX smart cardio line, with the upgrade forming part of the Club’s ongoing commitment to maintaining exceptional standards across its fitness facilities.
The decision to refresh the cardio suite was driven by a desire to enhance reliability, modernise the aesthetic of the gym floor and ensure the facility could keep pace with evolving member expectations and technology. With limited spare equipment available, minimising downtime and ensuring fast service response times were also key priorities for the Club.
“After many years of reliable use, our previous equipment was beginning to look tired and required more frequent maintenance,” explained Lara Bunting, Head of Swimming and Fitness at The Hurlingham Club. “We wanted a solution that delivered a premium look and feel while also offering the technology and reliability our members expect. The ONYX range provided exactly that, and the integration with our existing EGYM system was an important factor in our decision.”
Another crucial consideration was spatial efficiency. With all cardio equipment located on the Club’s first floor, the footprint of each machine played a key role in equipment selection. Matrix’s compact yet high-performance designs enabled the Club to maintain a familiar layout while maximising the usability of the space.
The installation process was carefully managed to minimise disruption to members. Matrix coordinated the removal of the existing equipment and installation of the new machines within a tightly controlled timeframe, allowing the facility to remain operational and members to continue their workouts with minimal interruption.
“The extraction of the old equipment and installation of the new was seamless,” Bunting added. “The logistics were handled extremely well, and the timescale was adhered to throughout. Bridget Kirwan, our Matrix Fitness account manager was always available for support and played a fundamental role in the success of the installation.”
Members have responded positively to the new equipment since the installation was completed in September 2025. The enhanced digital interface, improved displays and the ability to log in to personal entertainment accounts such as Netflix have been particularly well received.
Usage levels across the cardio area have remained strong, with the Club reporting that all treadmills and cross trainers are frequently in use simultaneously during peak periods. The addition of a rear-entry cross trainer has also improved spatial efficiency within the gym, helping the area feel more open while maintaining a full cardio offering.
