Trainlike Launches AI Training Analysis That Closes the Loop Between Logging and Progress

While fitness apps use AI to generate more workouts, Trainlike uses it to explain the training people are already doing and turn those insights into targets for their next workout.

Trainlike, a strength training app for iPhone and Apple Watch, today announced the availability of its AI-powered training analysis. Trainlike combines an adaptive progression engine with AI analysis. The engine sets each user’s targets set by set. After every session, the AI reads the workout against the user’s recent history, goals, reported energy levels, and any reported injuries, explains what happened and why, and recommends specific adjustments.

Adjustments the user accepts carry into the next session, so each workout informs the one after it.

Across fitness technology, AI is moving from measurement to insight. Oura reported that among members who tested its AI Advisor, 60% said it helped them understand metrics or concepts they hadn’t fully grasped before. Whoop’s AI guidance combines sleep, strain and recovery data to explain trends and suggest next steps.

The harder step is action. In Trainlike, accepting a recommendation changes the targets waiting inside the next workout. In strength training, the action is the next workout. Yet most strength training apps have aimed AI at generating new workouts, often reshuffling exercises week to week, rather than at explaining the training people already do.

Trainlike connects all three steps in one place. It records every set, explains what each session means, and carries the resulting adjustments into the next workout.

“People track every set and still can’t tell you whether their training is working,” said Michael Zsigmond, founder of Trainlike. “Most apps use AI to hand you another workout. We use it to explain the one you just did and what it means for the next one. When people can understand their progress, they stick with a program long enough for it to pay off. We don’t shuffle your workouts. We make sense of them.”

The approach is consistent with research on exercise variation. A 2022 systematic review by Kassiano et al. found that systematic exercise variation can benefit muscle growth and strength, while excessive, random changes may hinder progress.

Trainlike is built for people who have been strength training for a while: past the beginner phase, training around a job and a family, and wanting to know whether their training is working. The analysis works at three levels:

  • Every session: a post-workout breakdown of effort, intensity, volume and progression, summarized in a shareable score, with recommended adjustments for next time.
  • Every exercise: deep dives that show how an individual lift is trending and what’s driving it.
  • Every month: a 30-day analysis of how overall training is trending.

Workout data syncs through each user’s own iCloud account, and Trainlike does not keep a server-side database of user workout histories. Users switching from Hevy or Strong can import their full training history.

Trainlike is available now on the App Store. New users get three full workouts free, with no credit card required. After that, a subscription is $14.99 USD per month.
