GLP-1 care is getting an upgrade.

What’s happening: Amazon launched a GLP-1 program through One Medical, embedding weight-loss drugs into primary care with ongoing monitoring, labs, and medication delivery.

Care gap. Shifting GLP-1s from a one-time prescription to a continuous care model, opt-ins receive a pre-visit screening, structured consultations and oversight, and evidence-based support via its AI healthcare agent.

Available nationwide, with appointments starting at $29, Amazon aims to offer transparent pricing and intersecting care for cardiovascular health, metabolic conditions, and overall health.

Transactional. With 600K prescriptions written for Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy pill in its first two months on market, GLP-1 demand is surging, but improper dosing, poor nutrition, and limited oversight are exposing the limits of telehealth-first prescribing and one-off treatment models.

At the same time, the category is fragmenting with low-cost and oral options scaling access but requiring more ongoing management.

Mass market. As the government reins in exploitative mass-prescribers and compounders, operators are thinking beyond fulfillment.

After butting heads with regulators and suppliers, Hims opened its platform to branded meds while extending care, while Ro bundles new oral options with coaching, labs, and navigation. Building a holistic toolbox, Walmart tapped Aaptiv, Berry Street, Twin Health, and more.

Punchline: With distribution expanding, responsible oversight and care are the next hurdle — with the advantage shifting to those equipped for end-to-end journeys.
