AI, wearables, and integrated prescriptions are shifting care from institutions to individuals.

Platform plays. In recent weeks, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Amazon announced dedicated AI-focused healthcare products.

  • OpenAI rolled out consumer-focused ChatGPT Health—syncing medical records, labs, and wellness apps—alongside a HIPAA-compliant offering for health systems, before acquiring “medical memory” startup Torch.
  • Anthropic followed with hospitals-, payers-, and life sciences-targeted Claude for Healthcare—embedding AI into clinical workflows and trials—while expanding consumer health record integrations.
  • Amazon launched Health AI for One Medical members, surfacing answers, managing prescriptions, and coordinating appointments using medical records and labs — embedding AI directly into primary care.

Regulatory unlock. At the same time, new FDA guidance loosens restrictions on wearables x AI, letting wellness devices and software surface physiological health signals without full medical oversight. At the state level, Utah partnered with Doctronic for AI-managed medical scripts.

Execution gap. Insights are accelerating, giving individuals more health agency. But while data is being democratized, action isn’t. Long-term behavior change remains the bottleneck, with human factors hardest to program for.

Looking ahead: AI efficiency is half the equation, but humans in the loop still have to solve for adherence.
