Apple Eyes Health-Tracking Smart Glasses

Apple is bringing health into view.

The latest: The tech giant has ambitions to develop smart glasses with health and fitness capabilities, per Bloomberg.

Tipped off. Apple’s Vision Products Group is hiring a product design leader to “define the future of health, well-being and fitness experiences across vision products.”

Take two. Apple previously envisioned Vision Pro as an immersive fitness platform, using body tracking to analyze workouts. But the headset’s weight and technical limitations stifled progress, making smart glasses a more practical path.

Long game. Set to launch next year, wellness won’t be a focal point of Apple’s first-gen glasses. But, like the Apple Watch and AirPods before them, health tracking could become a key feature.

Seeing a similar future, brands are betting smart glasses become the next everyday wearable.

  • Meta x Oakley launched AI performance glasses with Garmin and Strava integrations for runners and cyclists.
  • Snap debuted consumer AR Specs in a bid to bring digital life off screens and into the real world.
  • Oura is reportedly exploring smart glasses after acquiring gesture-tracking startup Doublepoint.

Looking ahead: From smart rings to screenless bands, consumer health UX is evolving. Looking beyond the wrist, Apple’s tinkering with glasses as its next interface.
