barre3 acquires Studio Barre

barre3 is moving and shaking.

What’s happening: The boutique fitness franchise acquired Studio Barre, operator of 11 barre studios across the country.

Taking off. Founded in 2008, barre3 counts 200 studios across 41 states, Canada, and the Philippines. Buying competitor The Barre Code in late 2023, it’s growing AUV by 27% YoY — without outside funding.

More to come, barre3 plans to scale internationally while completing more acquisitions.

Perennial. Overshadowed by Pilates, barre’s low-impact strength and flexibility training struck a chord with consumers, with ClassPass and Xplor Mariana Tek data confirming it among the top five most booked classes.

With longevity and women’s health at the forefront, barre3 CEO Sadie Lincoln expects its impact to grow:

“…we will meet them at each inflection point in their lives, like childbirth, a new career, or entering menopause, when being strong matters most.”

Barre fight. Emboldened by its popularity, the category is rolling up.

  • Extraordinary Brands bought Neighborhood Barre, with 22 sites open or planned.
  • Purpose Brands-owned The Bar Method signed its first international MFA for Japan.
  • Xponential’s Pure Barre entered Mexico and Japan, and launched a branded getaway with Princess Cruises.

Punchline: Against multi-modality supergroups, barre3 is staying the course, doubling down on empowering women to stay in growth mode.
