Mental health is getting a diagnostics layer.
What’s happening: Digital mental healthcare provider Meru Health launched Meru Health Advanced, a psychiatry and therapy program combining metabolic testing, wearables, nutrition, counseling, and coordinated care for complex mental health conditions.
New model. Built for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, and chronic illness comorbidities, the program integrates blood biomarker panels, WHOOP data, HRV biofeedback, dietitians, therapists, and psychiatrists into a single care pathway.
Beyond medication. More than 1B people globally live with a mental health condition, and yet psychiatry remains imprecise — over a third of severe mental illness is misdiagnosed.
Meanwhile, some SSRIs alter behavior for the worse, and antidepressants are ineffective for up to 30% of those with MDD, rising to 50% over time.
With calls growing for movement and diet as frontline treatments, the white space shifts to quantification. Running 30–50 biomarkers to uncover nutritional, hormonal, and inflammatory imbalances, Meru leads with data-informed lifestyle changes while positioning continuous medication as the “last resort.”
Punchline: As mental health converges with preventative care, the future of psychiatry looks more like an integrated ecosystem for the body, mind, and spirit.
