Millie is scaling modern midwifery.
What’s happening: The tech-enabled maternity clinic secured $12M in Series A co-led by TMV and Foreground Capital.
Expanding beyond its flagship, Millie will scale physical expansion and hybrid wraparound care.
High expectations. Combining midwife-led in-person checkups, digital doula support, and continuous data monitoring, Millie is aiming to up the standard for maternal health — to strong results, including 30% better C-section and 67% better preterm birth rates vs. national averages.
Striking a partnership with HCA Healthcare, Millie plans to open a joint clinic at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose ahead of more brick-and-mortars across the country.
Special delivery. American pregnancies can be a challenge, with 35% of US counties considered maternity care deserts.
Missing at the table, only ~12% of pregnancies involve a midwife, despite some evidence suggesting integrating their care could avert 41% of maternal deaths.
Taking note, Maven Clinic landed $125M for value-based care, Pomelo Care acquired The Doula Network to go hybrid, and Google-backed Oula opened at NYC’s Mount Sinai West. Getting into the data, HeraMED partnered with Garmin to expand health metrics.
Takeaway: Millie and others see midwives and doulas as an integral part of the team. Lacking inclusive, holistic care, women have reason to demand it.
