Function Acquires Getlabs, Brings Bloodwork Home

Diagnostics are coming to the doorstep.

What’s happening: Preventative health platform Function acquired mobile phlebotomy network Getlabs, expanding access to consumer-led diagnostics.

Pain point. Building on its Quest Diagnostics partnership, Function will now offer bloodwork at home, office, or on demand, removing barriers to missed screenings.

End-to-end. Valued at $2.5B, Function is developing AI-led “Medical Intelligence” to deliver continuous, contextual health insight.

Aggregating data across labs, imaging, and lifestyle, it acquired full-body MRI platform Ezra, partnered with Equinox and Sweetgreen, and integrated with ChatGPT Health, Copilot Health, and Perplexity Health.

Blood feud. Bloodwork is becoming preventative health infrastructure, and more companies are pursuing vertical integration. Hims acquired Trybe Labs and YourBio to own at-home collection, while Amazon partnered with Lifeforce and Reperio Health on longevity diagnostics.

Scaling DIY draws, platforms like SheMed and influencer-endorsed Rythm tap device-maker Tasso to tailor treatments and lower costs.

Punchline: Function isn’t a bloodwork company; it’s a data company. Owning collection closes the loop, enabling frictionless UX, more frequent tests, and more ways to monetize users’ biometrics.
