Dr. ChatGPT went official.

What’s happening: OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health, letting users upload electronic health records, insurance claims, lab tests, and wearable data to deliver personalized support.

On record. With 5% of all platform queries already about healthcare, and 40M users asking health questions daily, the move turns ephemeral chats into a dedicated hub.

Creating continuity across labs, prescriptions, biometrics, and habits, ChatGPT Health’s AI identifies patterns, tracks changes, and tailors guidance over time.

Lifestyle med. Still in beta, users will soon be able to connect EHRs, Apple Health, and partnered wellness apps like Function, WeightWatchers, AllTrails, Peloton, and MyFitnessPal to fast-track lifestyle medicine adjustments.

Tapping b.well, a health data platform working with 2.2M healthcare providers, for infrastructure, ChatGPT Health bridges into the clinical setting — all while self-declaring as a wellness product.

Owned. More than a feature, OpenAI is building a data moat, using the Personal Health OS as platform lock-in. With Apple’s reported “AI doctor” still in development and most AI health tools focused on narrow use cases, OpenAI is moving first to own the longitudinal layer.

A double-edged sword, becoming the trusted source for health agency puts greater scrutiny on ChatGPT’s history of misinformation and hallucination in mental health and prescription.

Looking ahead: From WebMD to Dr. Google and now ChatGPT, tendencies to self-diagnose haven’t changed. But, empowered by personal data and connectivity, healthcare providers must be prepared to work in tandem with patients’ LLMs, or risk losing them.
