Somnee is generating sleep.

What’s happening: The sleeptech company added $10M in a seed extension led by Khosla Ventures to launch an upgraded neurostimulation headset.

Shocking. Equipped with EEG sensors, Somnee’s device maps brainwaves, applying targeted frequencies via low-intensity currents to promote restful sleep.

Clinically proven to be 4x more effective than melatonin and 1.5x more than Ambien for sleep onset and quality, it seeks to supplant supplements in the $91.4B sleep aid market.

Performance Zzzs. Identified for its potential to boost performance and recovery, Somnee was selected for the NBA’s Launchpad accelerator program while partnering with Equinox Hotels to power its in-house sleep lab.

Beta-testing with NBA teams, its second-gen headband will tap AI for real-time monitoring and sleep cycle interventions.

But, according to CEO Tim Rosa, “sleep fitness” is for more than just elite athletes:

“People are starting to realize that sleep isn’t a luxury — it’s fuel. It makes you sharper, more creative, higher performing, and ultimately more successful in the long run.”

Sleepwear. From Muse’s new Athena wearable to vagus nerve stimulation from Pulsetto, neuromodulation is the cutting edge of sleep science — and it’s yet to reach the mainstream.

Looking ahead: With clinical studies, acclaimed sleep expert Dr. Matthew Walker as co-founder, and clout as an NBA performance-enhancer, Somnee’s latest device could propel it to new heights.
