Brainwaves Become a Health Metric

Rewiring wellness.

Brainwaves are the new steps.

Brain Drain

Cognitive decline is accelerating, and modern life is complicit.

From social isolation to short-form video, daily habits are driving clinical “brain rot,” while pollution, pesticides, and microplastics quietly elevate burden.

With Alzheimer’s cases reaching 7M last year, brain health has become a pillar of longevity.

Mission Control

Beyond diagnosis, DTC neurotech now decodes neural signals, pairing continuous tracking with targeted stimulation to enhance energy, focus, and mental resilience.

Wearables. Integrating inputs, Muse’s headband combines brain and oxygen signals for deeper cognitive insight, while Neurable’s headphones train reaction time and behind-the-ear devices from Atlas and Awear combat distraction and stress.

Sleep therapies, Somnee’s headband uses low-frequency currents, while NextSense’s earbuds adapt “pink noise” to brainwaves. Tracking cerebral blood flow, Lumia’s earrings and Temple’s face-affixed device pioneer new form factors.

Implants. As brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) break through, the neurotech economy is approaching $52B. Initially focused on restoring mobility, implants from Synchron, Paradromics, and Elon Musk’s Neurolink are seeking regulatory approval. Integrating man and machine, Sam Altman’s Merge Labs just raised $252M.

Clinics. As non-pharmaceutical interventions gain momentum, the neuromodulation sector is set to double over the next decade.

Like a factory reset, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) rebalances underactive brain regions in ~30-minute sessions. Shown to reduce depression, it’s now being used for menopausal brain fog, burnout, mental fitness, and food noise.

Demand is accelerating across mental health clinics like Radial, as well as medspas and longevity centers. Gaining credibility, platforms like EXOMIND by BTL, Brainsway, SAINT, and Ampa are clearing regulatory hurdles, while Pharia Health brings TMS to wellness spaces.

At-home. Using headset-based electrical stimulation, Flow Neuroscience secured FDA approval for at-home depression treatment, Samphire Neuroscience and OhmBody remedy PMS/endometriosis pain, and Mave targets mental performance.

Synchronizing light and sound to guide brain activity, Prism tackles PTSD, NeuroVIZR promotes longevity, and Spectris by Cognito Neuroscience slows Alzheimer’s progression.

Takeaway: Unlocking brain insights for consumers opens new frontiers for prevention, treatment, and optimization — with neurofeedback loops validating exercise, nutrition, and recovery inputs.
