Consumers and operators are rethinking what access to healthcare really means.

General Medicine scales healthcare ecommerce

PillPack co-founder TJ Parker’s General Medicine raised $120M to build a consumer layer for healthcare.

  • The company is approaching care like ecommerce, creating a one-stop platform for medications, labs, telehealth, specialists, and other services.
  • After selling PillPack to Amazon for $1B, Parker helped build Amazon’s pharmacy and primary care businesses. Now he’s applying that consumer-focused playbook across healthcare.

As telehealth, DTC, and AI doctors chip away at the traditional system, General Medicine is betting healthcare’s next interface looks more like a marketplace.

Altro Health is building a “Shopify for wellness businesses”

Altro Health raised $7M to help wellness businesses offer medical treatments in-house.

  • The company provides infrastructure for fitness operators, medspas, and longevity clubs to offer peptides, GLP-1s, hormone therapy, and personalized care.
  • Altro already works with 500 fitness operators and wellness businesses, connecting providers, prescriptions, and clinical services through a single platform.

As the gym-as-clinic model gains ground, Altro is betting the next step is making access to peptides and other treatments more convenient — and more clinically controlled.

True Food Kitchen files bankruptcy

True Food Kitchen filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and closed 12 restaurants.

  • The wellness-focused restaurant chain will put its business up for sale while its remaining 34 locations across 14 states continue to operate.
  • With financial problems dating back to the pandemic, the company secured $20M in debtor-in-possession financing, subject to court approval, to fund the restructuring and sale process.

After reaching a peak of 46 locations, True Food is now looking for a long-term partner to reset the business around its original health-focused concept.
