SkinBit is democratizing dermatology.
What’s happening: The skin imaging company raised a $6M pre-seed to bring its full-body scanning system into medspas, longevity clinics, and dermatologist offices.
Skin-tel. After a delayed melanoma diagnosis, Jonathan Benassaya, co-founder of streaming platform Deezer, launched SkinBit to bring dermatology into the preventative health space.
Tapping total-body imaging, its 20-minute automated scans map and categorize marks, databasing the results to track changes while routing concerns to clinicians. Placing its tech into consumer-facing clinics, it’s readying three partner locations this year and 15 by 2027.
Robo-derm. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, and one in 50 battle melanoma. Largely driven by inadequate sun protection, cases are rising — yet, the majority skip annual dermatologist visits, hampered by access and affordability.
But, AI-driven tech is already reshaping the field, with SquareMind recently raising $18M for clinically integrated robots and Neko Health training its skin-mapping tech to flag eczema too.
Punchline: Currently treated as an afterthought, SkinBit wants to tap tech to make skin checks standard preventative protocol.
