Weight loss drugs are reshaping senior care.

What’s happening: Healthy aging platform Bold added Medicare-backed GLP-1s, providing wraparound care to promote efficacy and independence for seniors.

Senior rate. Beginning this month, the CMS’s Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program provides beneficiaries with discounted name-brand weight loss drugs for a $50 copay. Broadening access and affordability, an estimated 4M people meet needs-based eligibility requirements.

Raising red flags, side effects from GLP-1s are amplified in the elderly, and with the temporary program set to expire at the end of next year, outcomes for off-ramping patients could worsen.

Bold plan. More than the general population, seniors taking the drugs experience bone and muscle loss they can’t afford to lose, increasing fall risk and frailty for poorer quality of life.

Bold pairs tailored strength and balance training, nutrition coaching, and virtual check-ins as a complement to primary care. Promoting confidence through functional interventions, CEO Amanda Rees sees the program supporting senior goals of “aging with agency.”

Silver tsunami. Despite seniors outnumbering children in half of US counties, LTV-chasing preventative health companies often ignore the generation with which they’d have the greatest impact. With adults 65+ still chasing vitality, performance optimization must be adaptable to an older POV.

Looking ahead: Access to GLP-1s isn’t enough for special populations, and the stakes could be high without support. Stepping up, from Bold’s strength training to wearable-led coaching platforms and reimagined nutrition shakes, the silver wellness moment has arrived.
