Balenciaga is becoming a wellness fashion house.
What’s happening: The luxury designer unveiled a high-end activewear line called TechWear, hosting wellness activations and partnering with Barry’s as it crosses sport with savoir faire.
Active aspirations. Facing luxury’s slowdown, Balenciaga is in experiment mode under newly appointed creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Designed for the runway and fitness studio, the collection includes leggings, tank tops, and bodysuits with antibacterial, moisture-wicking fabrics and UV protection.
Supporting the launch, the house will host a pop-up shop at Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, serving merch, beverages, and protein and adaptogen bars — as well as global Barry’s studio takeovers offering curated classes and co-branded smoothies.
Cross-training. Alienated by heritage luxury, consumers are seeking lifestyle fits.
Leaning in, brands are fusing fashion and fitness – Dior released couture equipment, while Miu Miu and Loewe dropped viral sneaker collabs with New Balance and On, respectively.
With sold-out fitness drops and limited-edition crossovers bringing back hype for high fashion, Gucci is entering F1 as part of a performance lifestyle shift to revamp its brand image.
Punchline: On the move, Balenciaga is updating its luxury playbook with active consumers in mind.
