Gyms are a growth market.

All rise. Global fitness operators notched 10.7% revenue growth in 2025, per HFA, defying inflation, consumer pullback, and rising operating costs.

World tour. An economic force, gym industry revenues outpaced global GDP, with the US sector hitting $22.4B, Europe topping $44B, and Japan $10B.

Most People Don't Belong to a Gym

India, China, and Brazil each have ~50K facilities, nearly matching the US, but participation remains in the single digits. As fitness becomes societal infrastructure, emerging markets could drive the industry’s next wave of growth.

Gold star. Revenue grew faster than membership (+6.9%) — a sign consumers are still spending on fitness despite rising dues. Gaining ground, Germany’s LifeFit Group, EōS Fitness, and India’s Cult.fit all posted 40%+ YoY sales growth. Meanwhile, Europe’s Basic-Fit, Latin America’s Smart Fit, and East Asia’s 24/7 Fitness led expansion efforts.

Looking ahead: As consumers embrace fitness, operators have room to grow participation and revenue worldwide.
