Perimenopause Care Faces an Education Gap

Perimenopause is still misunderstood.

What’s happening: A 17K+ person study from women’s health app Flo and the Mayo Clinic found most respondents are confused about midlife.

While the majority cited hot flashes, sleep issues, and weight gain as key perimenopausal symptoms, they drastically underreported broader fatigue and mood changes associated with the transition period.

Life lessons. While 2M American women enter perimenopause each year, many lack symptom awareness to seek early intervention. Meanwhile, trained life stage care providers are hard to come by — only 47% of women aged 50–64 have been educated by their doctor, as the majority of residency programs don’t offer midlife curriculum.

Building buzz. Aiming to break the stigma for good, consumer-focused brands are bridging the knowledge gap while exploring integrated care — from AI-powered specialty care and wearables-tracked insights to self-care, menopause retreats, and exercise therapy.

Looking ahead: While a growing category, poor perimenopause awareness keeps many women in the dark, signaling an opportunity for brands and experts to prioritize accessible care and education.
