Molecular monitoring is the next big jump.
Switch up. Stanford spinout Adaptyx Biosciences is pursuing FDA clearance for a CGM-like device that charts dynamic cortisol levels in real time. Using DNA-programmable molecular tech, it’s analyzing hormonal rhythms to decode adrenal diseases like Cushing’s and Addison’s, diabetes, and PMOS.
CGM+. Health can’t be defined by a single molecule, and multi-analyte sensing is the next frontier.
Upgrading CGMs, Abbott is readying a dual glucose-ketone monitor, and Dexcom’s G8 will eventually read ketones, lactate, and potassium. Meanwhile, biolinq and Sava both have multi-metabolite ambitions for chronic disease management.
But “aptamer-based” sensors, capable of analyzing smaller molecules, are still uncharted territory. Along with Adaptyx, Level Zero Health and Kilele Health are also pursuing clearance, tracking hormones for reproductive health, longevity, and more.
Small wonder. Raising $23M to date, Adaptyx’s commercial launch is still “a few years away” but, planning to debut with an eight-analyte biosensor that outclasses modern CGMs, it’s already making milestones — recently joining a study to quantify chronic pain in veterans.
Punchline: Like the evolution from pedometer to clinical wearable, shifting from sole focus to simultaneous systems monitoring could make CGMs a thing of the past.
